Allergies consist of various kinds, from food allergies to drug allergies. Some of these allergies are mild, but some can be life-threatening.  Allergies are the body’s overreaction to a substance or object that generally does not cause certain diseases or conditions. Substances that can trigger an allergic reaction are also called allergens.

When there is contact with an allergen, an allergic reaction will occur because the immune system considers the allergen as something that can harm the body, even though the substance is actually not dangerous. There are several types of allergies that can occur so don’t get confused about your allergies, here are the types of allergies that usually occur:

  1. Food allergies

Food allergies occur after consuming certain foods that can trigger allergies, such as eggs, milk, nuts, wheat, soybeans, and seafood such as fish and shellfish. Food allergic reactions can include itchy skin and mouth, swelling of the lips and face, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, and difficulty breathing.

  1. Skin allergies

Skin allergies occur when the allergen that triggers the allergy comes into contact with the skin. These allergic reactions can include redness of the skin, a rash, itching, and swelling. The allergens that can trigger skin allergies vary, from pollen, nickel metal, certain plants, latex ingredients, to beauty products or cleaning products that contain certain substances.

  1. Dust allergy

Dust can be a substance that can cause allergies. Apart from dust, allergic reactions can also be caused by mites or fleas, pet feces, dead cockroach carcasses, and spores. Dust allergy sufferers will usually experience symptoms of watery eyes, red eyes, itchy skin, sneezing, and itchy and congested nose, after being exposed to substances that trigger allergies.

  1. Drug allergy

Drug allergy is an overreaction of the immune system to drugs that are consumed. There are many types of drugs that can trigger allergies, including antibiotics such as penicillin, pain relievers such as aspirin, chemotherapy drugs to treat cancer, and drugs to treat autoimmune diseases.

We recommend that you consult your doctor immediately if you feel an allergic reaction after taking the drug, such as skin rash, itching, fever, swelling, wheezing, watery eyes, and shortness of breath. The main principle of allergy treatment is to identify the cause of the allergy and stay away from the trigger factor. To treat bothersome complaints, doctors can give antihistamines to reduce itching.

As for severe allergies, doctors may also give corticosteroid drugs. Of the types of allergies above, allergic reactions that appear will be different for each person. Although most allergic reactions are not life-threatening, you need to be aware of anaphylactic reactions.

This condition is characterized by difficulty breathing, weak pulse, increased heart rate, and pale skin. Although rare, anaphylactic reactions should be watched out for because they can be life-threatening if not treated immediately.
