legacy verve, dry skin

Dry skin is a common condition in the skin that occurs due to a lack of fluid in the outer layer of the skin. Open body parts, such as arms, hands, and feet are the most vulnerable areas to experience this disorder.

Dry skin or xerosis can be experienced by anyone regardless of gender. Dry skin can occur at different levels in each person, depending on their health condition, place of residence, length of time in the open, and age factors. Older people are more prone to dry skin.

Several symptoms of dry skin
For some people, dry skin can be experienced throughout their lives. However, most of these conditions only last temporarily or only at certain times, depending on the conditions already mentioned.

Dry skin is often characterized by several symptoms, such as the surface of the skin that feels and looks rough. In addition, owners of dry skin will find that their skin feels tight or stiff when bathing, after bathing, or while swimming. Redness and itching are also common. Another common symptom is cracks or fine lines on the skin. The skin will also likely have scales and flaking. In more severe conditions, there are deep cracks and may bleed.  Symptoms of dry skin can appear for several reasons, including:

  • Irritation

Causes of irritation are very diverse, ranging from soap to perfume. Irritation that occurs on the skin can also be caused by fabrics or clothing materials, as well as materials used to wash clothes, such as detergents or fabric softeners.

  • Rubbing the skin

One of the activities that aim to clean the skin, but can cause dry skin is rubbing the skin. Especially if this habit is done with a scrubbing tool such as a sponge. The friction that occurs between the scrub and the skin is potentially damaging the moisture layer on the surface of the skin, causing dryness on the skin.

  • Aging factor

The older you get, the thinner and drier a person’s skin condition is. This change is natural, given that the older a person is, the fewer hormones the body produces. The decrease in hormones includes hormones related to skin health.

  • Rub the body with a towel after bathing

Bathing can help moisturize the skin. However, if a person immediately rubs the body with a towel until it dries immediately after bathing, the moisture can be lost and cause dry skin.

  • Wrong use of soap

Using a soap that is not intended for the skin while bathing, will be harmful. This will make the natural moisturizer on the skin eroded, thus making the skin dry. Soaps with strong formulations such as antiseptics can also increase the risk of dry skin.

  • Weather changes

Climate change also affects air humidity levels. Too low air humidity will cause dryness of the skin. The lower the air humidity, it usually happens if the temperature is cold, then the skin feels drier.

  • Steam bath

A hot steam bath can provide more enjoyment for a person while bathing. However, it can cause dry skin, because the hot temperature makes the skin’s natural oils dry faster. If a person’s skin condition is scaly and red, he may have a specific disease, such as atopic dermatitis or psoriasis. Scaly skin and redness may also be related to medical conditions such as diabetes or underactive thyroid gland. In addition, dry skin can also be caused by a body condition that lacks fluid or dehydration.
