White radish or known by its scientific name; Raphanus raphanistrum. White radish contains many vitamins, including vitamin A, beta-carotene, vitamin B1, riboflavin, niacin, vitamin C and E. These vegetables also come with some essential minerals such as iron, calcium, manganese.

White radish also contains oxalic acid, coarse fiber and folic acid. In Korea, white radish is often referred to like kimchi. Whereas in Japan, the benefits of white radish are often used as salads and are made into sashimi, soup, or even fried.

The radish itself has good nutritional content for the body. In 100 grams of radish, there are 16 calories, 3.4 grams of carbohydrates, 1.6 grams of fiber, and 0.1 grams of fat. There are so many benefits that come with consuming radish thanks to its rich nutrients. Some benefits of radish, include:

Radish is a type of vegetable that is rich in fiber content. Therefore, consuming radish on a regular basis can improve the digestive system, improve bowel function (BAB), and prevent constipation.

  • Helps to lose weight

In addition to being good for the digestive system, it turns out that radish is also beneficial for losing weight. This is because the fiber inside the radish makes you feel full faster, reducing the amount of food you consume. The benefits of this one radish are also derived from the low-calorie content of the radish.

  • Good for diabetics

The glycemic index (IG) owned by carrots is so small that it is safe to consume for diabetics and does not raise blood sugar levels. In addition, radish also contains anthocyanins, an antioxidant that is useful in preventing cell damage from free radicals caused by diabetes. However, this study is still a test of animals, not humans.

  • Inhibits the growth of cancer cells

In addition to containing only anthocyanins, carrot vegetables also contain isothiocyanate substances that are useful in preventing cancer progression. A study has even revealed that isothiocyanate is useful in killing certain cancer cells, such as breast cancer, lung cancer, and prostate cancer.

  • Has antiseptic properties

The benefits of radish do not stop there, the radish itself is known to contain natural antifungal protein which is useful in killing Candida albicans fungus, which is the fungus that causes ulceration, vaginal fungal infections, and skin candidiasis.

  • Good for heart health

The benefits of radish are also good for heart health. The fiber, nitrate, and antioxidant content have good effects on preventing plaque formation in the blood vessels, widening, and relaxing the blood vessels to promote smooth blood flow.

Research in South Korea shows that a high fiber diet of vegetables such as radish has a good effect on reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke.

In addition, radish is also used to treat other diseases, such as inflammation of the mouth and throat, disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, bile ducts, infections, fever, cough, bronchitis, and mucous membranes in the respiratory tract. Unfortunately, further research is needed on the effectiveness of radish benefits in dealing with these conditions.
