  • Acid reflux

Not only infants can experience reflux. In fact, adults may also experience acid reflux if they often eat around their bedtime. In addition, eating late at night can also lead to indigestion and lack of sleep.

It is advisable to not eat for the next hour before putting your head on the pillow. Not only that, avoid carbonated drinks, alcohol, and caffeine 2 to 3 hours before bedtime. This is because it is also one of the triggers for acid reflux.

  • Increase your risk of diabetes

Did you know that there is a link between late-night eating and increased risk of diabetes? According to a study from the United States, eating late at night can increase your risk of diabetes. This is because it can increase insulin levels, glucose, cholesterol, and triglyceride.

Increased glucose and insulin levels are the leading cause of diabetes. Over time, it gets worse and eventually turns to diabetes. Increased cholesterol and triglycerides are due to fats in the bloodstream which increases the risk of diabetes and many other chronic diseases.

  • Increase the risk of heart disease

For those of you who don’t know, eating late at night can affect your blood pressure. This is because human blood pressure drops 10% at night to allow the body to rest. But taking food before going to bed just keeps it active.

As a result, your blood pressure stays at the same level even when sleeping, thus increasing the risk of various types of heart disease. So don’t eat dinner especially late at night.

Instead, you might be able to replace heavy snacks with snacks to eliminate hunger? Also, try to divert your attention to food by doing activities such as watching television, surfing the internet, playing smartphones, or video games. It certainly makes you forget to eat late at night.
