Sore throat is one of the most irritating ailment of all time. The throat is constantly sore while having the urge to cough at the same time. It’s downright misery. So today we’ll be giving remedies to recover from it.

Saliva production is increased from the lozenges and keeps the throat lubricated, something that relieves the throat.

OTC pain relief

Viruses are the cause of most sore throats according to Centers for Disease Control and PreventionTrusted.

Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB) or naproxen (Aleve) are OTC nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medicines (NSAIDs) that reduces the swelling of the throat.

Hydrating Yourself

This should go without saying. When catching any sickness, one should always drink lots of fluids. When you’re dehydrated, your body can’t produce enough saliva and mucus to keep your throat naturally lubricated. This will make the swelling and inflammation worse.

Water is the main choice of fluids, but you can have warm teas or soup if you get bored. Just make sure you don’t burn your sore throat from this.

Using a humidifier

Breathing in moist air can help soothe swollen tissue in your nose and throat. Turn on a cool mist humidifier to increase the amount of moisture in your room. You can buy humidifiers at most retailers.

Moist air is ideal as it soothes the sore throat and in some cases the swollen tissue. Buying a humidifier can increase the moisture in the air and do you some good.

Steam showers

An alternative to using humidifiers, you can still get moist air from taking warm showers as the steam would relieve the swelling and the pain of a sore throat.

Alternatively, running hot water in the sink can also produce steam for to inhale.

Boiling water in a pot for 30 minutes can provide better humidity in your house.

Raise your head

When sleeping, you should prop an extra pillow under your head as the extra height aid your breathing.

Prescriptions

If none of the above works, then the most obvious step to take after this is getting a prescription from a doctor. When prescribed with the antibiotic or medicine, finish the whole course, don’t half here and half there. It’s important to kill all traces of the virus or bacteria to prevent re-infection.
